Match FAQ's and Stage Information

updated May 7, 2009

The ten (10) stages are engaged either once, or multiple times and with handgun, rifle or both.

Stages are a combination of steel, such as Steel Challenge and IPSC style plates and special shaped steel. Steel is either stationary or falls down. Some stages have barriers and ports to shoot through.

Range to targets varies from 9 yards up to about 30 yards for rifle.

Some stages have multiple shooting positions.

Please assist the RO's and stage handlers in resetting the stages.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
What colors are the targets? Various, such as red, white, blue, yellow, orange, black.
When it says, for example, "10 rounds per string", what happens if I have a mis-feed, or something? 10 rounds means 10 rounds; however, .22 rimfire ammunition is sometimes finicky. In the event of a jam or misfire, you can clear and reload as necessary, shooting a total of 10 rounds, or the specified maximum for that string. This is a fun match and the RO's will offer every opportunity to complete the stages. From the practical side, it is difficult for the RO, even with the electronic timer, to count individual shots and give a "balance shots remaining" on the fly! The timer starts at the "beep" and the time of the last shot taken is your time for that run.
Electronic timers, how close do they need to be? On pistols and revolvers, not very close. On rifles, especially those with longer barrels, it might be that the timer needs to be pretty close, even in the competitor's field of vision. The RO's will do their best to not be in the way, while doing a good job.
What kinds of shooting positions are there? The positions include standing and seated. One stage has three standing positions that change in elevation (a platform) - if you have might have difficulty, please advise the RO before starting. Another is seated on a bench behind a wall with a port and another is in a chair.
When it says a reload "as required", what does that mean? This means you can reload for more rounds. On a semi-auto, remove the empty magazine, load in a new one and continue shooting. The first (i.e. empty) magazine can be dropped to the ground. If a revolver, reload to meet the maximum rounds. If a rifle, reload with another magazine, or otherwise load the rifle with more rounds up to the maximum for that stage.
What kind of movement is there? No movement while shooting - all movement between shooting locations is off the clock.
What is a "par time"? This is the maximum time for engaging the stage, at which point, shooting ceases. There are no par times for 2009.
What happens if someone has a malfunction and cannot finish a stage? This will be clarified for the 2010 match -- a situation like this can certainly happen with rimfire ammunition and for other reasons. In this case, a maximum time will be assessed for the stage, depending on the number of targets on that stage. This time will be noted on the stage description.
